Centennial Club History
The Centennial Chinese Shar-Pei Club. Inc. was established back in the early 1980’s. The founding people that got our club started were Herb and Joan Franson, Mike and Jocelyn Barker, Jim and Karen Tobin and Diana Rousseau. They all came together to form the club and hold shows through their connection with the Rocky Mountain Rare Breed Dog Club. The Rocky Mountain Rare Breed Dog Club was active in holding rare breed shows. Our club would hold a specialty in conjunction with the rare breed shows in order to make a full show weekend. For several years all of the members of the Centennial Club were also members of the Rocky Mountain Rare Breed Dog Club. Together they published a joint newsletter.
We became a CSPCA Affiliated club in 1983. Joan Franson and Diana Rousseau did all the paperwork to make this happen. Later on in the 1990’s, we became an AKC licensed club. We are licensed to hold both Specialty Shows and Obedience Trials. We are one of the few remaining Chinese Shar-Pei clubs that are licensed to hold Obedience Trials.
In the late 1980’s many local Shar-Pei clubs were coming up with logos to identify their club. Our club was no different. One of the club members, Eric Calvin, was quite the artist, and took on the job to design a logo for us. In 1986 or 1987, he came up with our current logo that we still use today. The logo can be found on our home page.
More Club Information
Thank you for your interest in the Centennial Chinese Shar-Pei Club. Our club is open to anyone that has an interest in the Chinese Shar-Pei in the state of Colorado. We welcome other states such as
Wyoming, New Mexico and Utah. Our meetings are held on the average every two months.
Our club serves to provide information about the breed, and to promote education about local and national issues that might involve our breed. We are very active in legislation. We also are actively involved in research projects that might lead to better health in our breed.
In the past our club was in collaboration with Colorado State University in a project doing research about Shar-Pei fevers and how that might relate to the amyloid kidney problems in the breed.
We put on breed booths in various locations to educate the public about the breed. We are also active in fund raising for research projects to improve the health in our breed. We are active in
rescue, and sponsor the only Shar-Pei rescue group in the state of Colorado .
We keep the club members up-to-date on all the pertinent information that might be of interest to the club members, regardless of the nature of the information.
We publish a quarterly award winning newsletter named the Rocky Mountain Wrinkle. All club members receive a copy of the newsletter with their membership.
We also have two parties a year: One is a Christmas party in January, and the other is a summer picnic.
We hope that you will come to our meeting, and see if the club has anything to offer to you. We look forward to meeting you. You can call Louise at 303-772-7325 or Alice Fix 303-873-1824 for more
